The Baptist Catechism defines prayer as “an offering up our desires to God, by the assistance of the Holy Spirit, for things agreeable to His will, in the name of Christ, believing, with confession of our sins, and thankful acknowledgment of His mercies” (Baptist Catechism, Q. 105). On Sunday, we spent time walking through Christ’s teaching on how to pray. However, I think we would all admit that if we do not tend the flame of our souls, our prayer lives can grow cold.
In this blog, I want to share some of my favorite resources on prayer. Some of these resources teach about prayer, while others are collections of prayers. I have found both to be tremendously helpful during dry seasons when I cannot seem to find the words to say. Even so, I am convinced that the best way to stir the soul and cling to God in prayer is to open the Bible, meditate on what it says, and pray it back to God in my own words. The Psalms are particularly helpful for this.
